Julian Vilarrubi
Julian Vilarrubi studied painting at the Royal Academy Schools in London where he won the
Richard Ford Award for travel in Spain. He has made landscape paintings based on travels
throughout Europe and Russia. He is especially drawn to the Italian and Spanish landscape. He works en plein air as well as in the studio and drawing underpins all his work.
Julian lives in Brighton where he works in his studio, undertakes commissions and teaches drawing and painting. His most recent teaching experience includes the Royal Drawing School taking drawing groups out into the local urban landscape of East London. Julian has been teaching life drawing in Brighton since 1998 and has been running a drop-in Saturday afternoon session as a volunteer at Sussex County Arts Club since 2008.
In 2018 he wrote the book “Life Drawing on the iPad” published by Crowood Press. This practical book shows you how an iPad and stylus can transform the way you paint and draw the human figure.
Julian currently exhibits his paintings at the Catto Gallery in Hampstead, London.
