Jill Eisele
My practice begins with drawing, often taking me to wild and wonderful parts of Cornwall, capturing fleeting moments where light and colour create atmosphere and expression. These underpin my largely figurative paintings, which convey a sense of incompleteness; of place and mystery.
I have taught in the UK and the USA, and have painted and drawn for my entire adult life. It is both humbling and inspiring to be part of St Ives School of Painting’s community, with its exceptional artistic heritage and extraordinary location. Teaching has been an invaluable
opportunity to share knowledge and techniques and to create with others. It is a privilege to create an environment where students are stimulated and encouraged in their own artistic journeys.
What our students say
Jill was great at establishing what each of us needed from the course and gave us just enough advice to help us move forward without overwhelming us. She was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic – and a born teacher. Love her!
Jill somehow managed the extraordinary achievement in art tutoring of understanding each student’s needs and pushing us all forward to another level of our practices. Everyone in the group seemed delighted, at the end, to have moved their practice forward.
Jill was incredible. So generous with all her knowledge. Creative and adaptable delivering a fun and informative three days in a great environment.

I wanted to just say how ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Jill’s course is…spent all day glued to my painting table!
‘I wanted to just say how ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Jill’s course is!!!
There is no way i can do all the tasks she has set because she is SO interesting and has covered so much ground – but I have notes on everything and am researching masses of stuff. It’s been truly wonderful so far!
I Have colour wheels done, collage work, colour charts, notes on the painters she has referred to – and have lists and lists of wonderful tasks to do for months hence!
Can’t wait for part 2 on Friday. please extend my appreciation and thanks to her. It really is fun and have spent all day glued to my painting table – one day I will actually come to the School again! Until then – this is GREAT!’
‘I can honestly say that it was one of the best presentations I have ever seen, either live or online. Jill knew her subject intimately and was so well -prepared and so brilliant in her demonstrations.
Her love for colour and complicated colour theory shone through her talk and the depth of her knowledge was obvious but presented in an interesting and easily assimilated way’
Jill is very knowledgeable. Checked in with us one to one just enough and not too much. Energetic, enthusiastic and funny!
Jill was a very supportive and encouraging tutor and was able to give guidance about how paintings could be improved.

Jill is a brilliant artist and a great teacher. I’m an untrained novice but this was so accessible and inspiring
I have attended many courses here and they have always been excellent. But this was superb. The tutor was so inspirational and I shall draw on her generous knowledge over and over again. Jill catered to a range of experiences and her style was so approachable.

I think that Jill is such a great teacher. New ideas, new techniques, well organised with plenty of different tasks building up our knowledge of colour mixing.
Jill is experienced and very knowledgeable. She packed the three days with flexible options, learning and experience. I am coming away energised and with new avenues to pursue and a range of approaches to experiment with. Jill was generous with her time and met each student’s process with encouragement and thoughtfulness. I think the course contained a vast amount more than one might expect on a three-day workshop.
The resources and the space to work in were excellent. The tutoring was wonderfully inspiring and supportive. I felt encouraged and supported all through and learnt new things
I loved it all!
Jill is an excellent teacher and an absolute font of knowledge. The beautiful St Ives School of Painting and the surroundings made it a beautiful experience I will always remember.

Jill was totally inspirational and so encouraging, and Kate was brilliant as a mentor, wise, encouraging and insightful. Thank you!
Jill was extremely knowledgeable about her subject and very good at passing on that information. Very patient, helpful and encouraging.
The course was beyond what I could have hoped for. Jill is a wonderful teacher, she planned the course so intricately, gave us so many ideas, techniques, knowledge, expertise and amazing encouragement. I don’t think I have ever learnt so much from anyone in such a short space of time. I’m so inspired to keep painting and experimenting and trying to capture the light of St.Ives.
A bit mind blowing in a positive way. Learnt so much and have such an urge now to go and try it all out.
Jill, our tutor, is an exceptional artist who imparted a phenomenal amount of knowledge on colour. She encouraged each student to reach beyond the potential they thought they had and succeeded. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
