When the rain comes in 🌧️

We’ve experienced some wild weather recently which has kept us from going outdoors, so one group visited the historic Porthmeor Cellars to continue their drawing practice. They explored automatic techniques such as sketching with their non-dominant hand and focusing on their subject rather than looking at their sketchbooks - methods often associated with Picasso.

A unique experience for one of our final short workshops of the summer!

Cellar 4, part of Porthmeor Studios & Cellars, has an uncertain history, though there are suggestions that building phases took place from the 1870s. Its final known use was as a pilchard cellar, and until recently it served a working fisherman as a place to store gear and set nets. After his retirement, The Borlase Smart John Wells Trust took over the cellar, and it is now home to American artist Mark Dion’s installation The Maritime Artist.
