Short on time or juggling commitments? Why not join us just for the weekend or even a long weekend starting Friday. We finish 3.30pm Sunday in time to catch the train home. Combine a weekend away in St Ives with a chance to develop new skills and explore making art.
Every month we will offer a different focus, led by experienced tutors with all materials provided. You will be working in a small group in our studio overlooking Porthmeor beach and the ocean. Who could wish for a more inspiring setting?
Need to escape London for a creative retreat?You can arrive Saturday morning on the Riviera Express Sleeper and on Sunday catch the afternoon train back home.

CW -Painting Landscape with a Palette Knife 27/10/2018
This is a chance to paint more confidently in oils using a palette knife. Gather source material from the dramatic coastline around St Ives and work in the historic Porthmeor studios. Through demonstrations, watching the artist tutor develop their own piece during the session, exercises and individual feedback, you will be surprised at how quickly your work develops.

An opportunity to create artwork that explores a personal approach to the world around you and your own creativity. A series of fun, stimulating exercises, including automatic drawing and constructing dream boxes will enable you to generate ideas and develop imagery. You will be encouraged to be creative and brave, with the freedom to choose the media which best suits your individual work.
LW - Three Day Portrait - Inspired by Hockney 16/11/2018
David Hockney's recent portraits show a return to the quiet contemplation of portraiture. Each work is the same size, his sitter in the same chair against the same vivid blue background, painted in the same time frame of three days. Using similar constraints, explore how to use paint to allow a sitter's personality to leap off the canvas with warmth and immediacy.
CW - Where Sea Meets Land 16/03/2019
Explore an expressive approach in oils to capturing the dramatic encounter between the sea and the land. Observe and sketch the coastline around St Ives, learning how to work with gouache to make annotations on colour and weather. Back in the studio develop these into lively and dramatic oil paintings. You will gain confidence in using a limited palette and work with a palette knife to capture drama and movement.
